31 Jan 2011

Sowelu, Raido, and Laguz indicated a timely path has started today.

Sowelu is the rune of Wholeness, Life Force, The Sun's Energy, and traditionally, the Sun.  We search after a wholeness, a completion.  We search within and without, sometimes independently or jointly.  Mediation provides guidance.  A touch from home may bring a sense of comfort.  Above all, the search and achievement of completion is what we all search for.

Raido is a rune of Surrender and Journey.  Surrender yourself to the journey of life, become one with your Self.  Personally, I was surprised to see cohesion developing at work.  Developing the trust and respect with my co-workers and between them has been gratifying to watch; especially after working in a inhospitably environment.  Personally, my renewed efforts at meditation has started me down a path towards becoming self-aware, improving my esteem, and increasing my creativity.  I look forward to continuing on that path!

Laguz is the rune of Change as symbolized by water.  Water is a slow and powerful force.  It never follows a straight line; it is always winding around rocks, objects, and tiny bits creates soil which is a foundation for vegetative growth, ultimately supporting human life.  Sometimes we start a change by bringing in a new element to our lives.  Meditation can be a catalyst for change.  Embrace change and see what wild journey it takes you on!

Tonight's advice is found in Mannaz reversed.  The third night in a row, this indicates there is still work for me to do with myself.  Starting a new path brings excitement and trepidation as the self and Self change.  Change is never forced, unless it is absolutely required.  Often when we ignore the need for change, it creeps up upon us for an external source.  Ignored change is always earth-shattering.  Embrace change and the events it brings.  Learn from it.

30 Jan 2011

Berkana reversed, Othila, and Eihwaz offered their guidance for today.

Berkana is the rune of growth.  There are times when our own personalities or characters get in the way of growth and development.  At times, these obstacles are intentional (stubbornly persisting when the best thing to do is make a graceful exit) or are unintentional (tools aren't available or have the tools but don't know how to apply them).  I had the tools and had an idea of how to apply them.  Self doubt creeps in.  And then, when you aren't expecting it, guidance appears.  Now I have the tools, I need to practice applying them.  With practice and knowledge, I will be better able to grow.  Perseverance!

Othila is the rune of Home, and one of the items that makes a person's "home" strong is Grief.  Grief is one of the learning tools we acquire as we go through life-changing experiences: birth, life, death, etc.  It is endured or created.  It adds depth to our lives.  How we handle it is the key to if it is a hindrance or an asset.  Do you grieve not knowing how to use the tools or do you grasp the opportunity to use them?

Eihwaz is the rune of Protection.  A form of protection is Respect.  Eihwaz embodies the Yew tree; very strong and evergreen.  Respect the self and the Self.  Eihwaz is the foundation of life.

Mannaz reversed offers its advice for a second night.  Look to caring for the self by feeding the Self.  At times, the Self needs to converse with the outside world.  The easiest way to do that is through meditation.  Listen to what the Self has to say.  It will tell the self where it is wanting; what is off balance.  Listen and take actions to bring the self and Self back into balance...

29 Jan 2011

Happy Birthday, Shortie!

Today's runes were Nauthiz reversed, Berkana, and Jera.  Another one of those days.  Not exactly bad, but not exactly stellar, either.

Nauthiz is the rune of constraint, necessity, pain; traditionally, it was the rune of need.  Maintain focus, maintain faith in your self and your Self.  Recognizing things that have been in place for a long time, that won't change, and perhaps shouldn't change.  Feast and famine.  The swing of a pendulum.  The things that feed self doubt.  The hardest thing is to fight yourself; knowing what is real, what is assumed, and ones place and role.  "Men's minds tend to fear more keenly those things that are absent." ~ Julius Ceasar

Berkana is the rune of Prayer and Growth/Birth.  Part of the inner battle is to assert oneself upon the inner critic.  To fight the implied with facts from the past, with experience.  Help from traditions, from the Divine are always worthy and good to seek out.  Answers may not appear readily.  Look deeper.  Asking may not be done readily, either.  The answers may just appear.

Jera is the rune of Perseverance; a period of time is involved for a project.  Don't give up.  Keep after a project.  Keep the goal in sight.  No matter the obstacle: external or interal; keep putting one foot in front of the other.  You will succeed.

Mannaz reversed offers advice for tonight.  Facing myself.  Facing what I have not worked on.  Facing the need to break old habits so new ones can take place.  The trinity appears.  The trinity comes in many forms: Father, Son, Holy Spirit; Body, Heart, Soul; self, Self, The Whole; etc.  When you find yourself at the beginning, look to your self and its relationship with the Self.  Are they at odds with each other?  Is your critic tearing you up?  Its time to bring them back into harmony with each other so the relationship can bloom.

28 Jan 2011

Nauthiz, Ansuz, and Thurisa gave their advice for today.  All three are message runes and today was a day of messages.

Nauthiz is the rune of Pain, Constraint, Necessity, and traditionally, Need.  Today's lesson was a reminder of how I deal when stressed and how I deal with stress.  A reminder that when I am tired, cranky, and stressed, comments and attitudes can be pointed.  When stress and fatigue increases, projectiles become scattered instead of focused.  Recognizing this, I mitigated the situation by removing myself from the catalyst.  On the up side, I learned something new today.  I learned that I should never be vocal about a process that I have not put my back into especially when there is a team involved.  It is never good to be vocal about activities when you aren't fully vested in the project.  I also learned modifications are good to make and use as they can be better than the original tool.  A longer handle and a wider head can do wonders on a Pulaski. Adversity is a great teacher and a good tool to have in the box.

Ansuz is the rune of Guilt and divine messages.  A rune of intellect.  There is a reason for brawn behind shovels and brains in front (brains ask too many questions!).  Of course, there is internal guilt for failings.  Failure to not be the weak link.  Failure to not be better prepared.  Failure mitigated by following through with an exercise that was not required.  Team work is funny that way.  When you are part of a team, there is an unspoken pressure to see it through to the end.  Which is worse, being a failure for participating, being the weak link; or walking away when knowing you are not likely to use the skills in the exercise and are not required to be there (basically thinking of the I instead of the team) and knowing the team may be stronger without you in it?

Thurisa is the rune of Compromise and a force.  Brain vs brawn.  Brawn vs brain.  Who will win?  Sacrifice the I for the we.  Do not sacrifice completely.  Mitigate the situation by looking out for the I so the situation doesn't fall apart completely.  Gage your activities to your weak link.  When in an important situation, that is vital.  Know when to give and when to stand your ground.  Also, when in a team situation, it is important treat each member with respect and compassion.

Wunjo is the advice for tonight.  A respite from a week of challenges and stress is over!  Celebrate how far I have come, enjoy the Serenity gained from a week coming to an end, find Joy in the success achieved in completion.  Restore peace and strength in preparation for the coming week.

27 Jan 2011

Isa, Nauthiz, and Raido offered guidance for today.

Isa is the rune of Stillness, Withdrawal, and Ice.  Go within, gather your strength.  At times, external help and guidance is not possible or appropriate, the answers you seek are within.  Even when retreating, stay within the world.  This was timely, I am four days into training and am reminded to relax in the face of pressing circumstances.  I asked the runes another question, separate from my normal questions, and was offered this rune.  Upon further inquiry, I learned I need to develop my own skills and explore my Self more before attempting a project I tried recently.  When Isa appears, look to caring for your Self and pursuing its interests.

Nauthiz is the rune of Shame, and traditionally, the rune of Hail.  Take the time to develop inner harmony through addressing such things like shame.  Perhaps it is the shame of reacting to someone who means no harm?  Perhaps it is feelings that have no basis but stem from worry and fear?  Whatever it is, recognize the source of shame, address it, neutralize it, and release it.  Live for the day; nothing more, nothing less.

Raido is the rune of journeys, and con temporarily, harmony.  Achieving a harmony within and without is a science and an art.  We all possess the science and the skill needed to achieve harmony.  With practice, repeated practice, we achieve art.  Maintaining harmony, or creating harmony, is important to maintain an inner balance, much like house cleaning.  Sweep out the corners to restore the balance.

Isa offers advice for what to work on tonight for tomorrow.  Look within, identify your fear, and reflect on how you got to where you are.  Mentally and physically prepare for the challenges coming in the morrow.

26 Jan 2011

Perth, Ehwaz, and Gebo were the runes for today.

Perth is the rune of Initiation, Something Hidden, a Secret Matter.  Indeed, the traditional translation describes the mystery within, the joy within that is on the side of the Divine.  Perhaps like the giddy void you feel when in the cups.  It indicates an enjoyable time and change.  Embrace change with joy, knowing it is what you need and life will be better because of it.

Ehwaz advises to forgive.  Part of a team, the members must work in tandem; however, they need to take time to take care of themselves as well.  Sharpen your tool, is what we learned today in Fire School.  If you are the weakest link, know that you are doing the best that you can as opposed to being weak because you failed to maintain your gear.  Forgiveness is one of those tools.  There is a time and a place to cut something or someone lose; however, that is a time for forgiveness as well.

Gebo is the rune of gifts.  One of the smallest gifts with the biggest gift power is the gift of commitment.  Fight the critic that is sending or saying negative things to sabotage you.  Maintain your commitment to the things you signed on for.

Raido is the advice for tonight.  Raido is the rune of journey, it indicates change.  Open yourself to change, allow it in.  Fighting it causes disagreements.  Surrender to change, allow it and you to live in harmony.

25Jan 2011

Jera, Ehwaz, and Inguz offered their advice for today.

Jera is the rune of Harvest or Fertility with a span of time.  A project will be successful, however, it may take a long time.  The cycle must be complete before it comes to a success.

Ehwaz is the rune of movement, of teamwork, of working in tandem.  When working in tandem, part of being able to work together requires trust and forgiveness.  No one does what is appropriate at all time, especially in the eyes of someone else.  Forgiveness allows people to work together as an unit.

Inguz represents Ing.  It may require renewal by going within oneself.  Renewal may indicate a gestation, a rest.  Take the time to renew relationships with your Self or others.  What needs to be done to renew the relationship?  What do you need to do to renew yourself?  Take the time to look within the answers and, if needed, ask for the answers.  Then, make the effort to create that renewal.

Laguz reversed is the task for tonight.  This rune indicates change.  Remember change is timely.  Allow change to occur, much like water flows along its path.  Have humor in the situation.  Humor makes every challenge easier to face and conquer.  Embrace change as it represents and fosters growth.

24 Jan 2011

Fehu reversed, Sowelu, and Hagalaz offered their advice for today.

Fehu is the rune of wealth.  Wealth needs to be shared so it isn't destructive.  Likewise, it helps us determine where our true nourishment lies.  Interacting with people who try our personalities may remind us to look for the lessons learned in interacting with that person and remind us to care for those who "feed" us.

Sowelu reminds us to show and have compassion for others and for ourselves.  We do not know what it is to live someone else's life.  Compassion is a gift that costs little and gives much.

Hgalaz is the rune of Hail, of Challenges.  Whether it is attending a meeting over a phone or interacting with people outside of our norms.  Keep calm, this shall pass. Learn from it and gain the skill of adapting to the challenge.

Thurisa reversed is the guidance for tonight.  Take extra care before crossing a threshold.  Take the time to consider what has happened, what has been, what you can learn from it; then let go and step through.  It takes wisdom to know when to push and when not to push someone or for something.  Compromise may be needed, it may be wise to wait just a bit more before pursuing the new.

23 Jan 2011

Ansuz reversed, Othila, and Wunjo were the runes I drew this morning.

Ansuz is the messenger rune.  It reminds to consider that not everything is as it seems.  Perhaps a failed communication is a pause.  A time to think.  To clean out the well before filling it again.

Othila is the homeland.  Within every home, is grief.  Today is a good time to look back on times, people, and actions that created grief.  Review it, let go.  In doing so, we clean out the old and make room for the new.  The pain of the past serves to strengthen our foundations.  It provides the strength to get up again after being knocked down and around.

Wunjo is the rune of Joy.  Take time to be thankful and to celebrate the people and events in your life that give you joy.  Take time to appreciate those in your life who give you joy and who you would mourn greatly if they were gone from your life.  Celebrate life!

Berkana is the advice for tonight.  Growth, Prayer, and Right Action (Inner Peace) are called for.  Be willing to grow.  Ask for help through prayer, and work at achieving inner peace.  Growth is much easier if you are at peace with your self.  Prayer can help achieve that when you can't.

22 Jan 2011

Berkana reversed, Inguz, and Dagaz were drawn today.

Berkana is a rune of growth.  Depending on how it presents itself, that growth may be free or blocked.  If it is blocked, are you creating obstacles for growth?  Even unconsciously, we may not want to approach change and may provide obstacles to slow ourselves down.  Remove obstacles and look to change as a liberator.  The new life is greater than the old.

Inguz is the rune of Fertility, represents Ing.  Look within.  Have faith in self.  Know you will grow and that is as it should be.  Faith in your abilities, be they physical or mental.  You will succeed; even stumbles are things to help create your success.

Dagaz represents the Day and with day reveals Purpose.  Purpose may be a thing or it may be the action, the process one goes through to obtain something like a goal.  Ultimately, it is a verb, it is an action.  Perhaps a new project will present itself.  Or, perhaps remember to stay on the course (or return when strayed) you set out to be on...

Tonight's project is Gebo.  Gift, trust, commitment.  Have you considered that giving yourself to a person, a relationship, or a project is one of the highest forms of hospitality?  We can give food, water, shelter, and fire are possessions that we can share.  However, they aren't of us.  Giving a piece of ourselves is the most personal thing we can do.  We choose to give to others.  We choose to give our physical being (our time, our words, our presence); our emotional being (friendship, trust, love, hate, etc); and our spiritual being (trust, true self, etc).  When we choose to give, no matter how much, we enrich our lives accordingly.

21 Jan 2011

Inguz, Fehu, and Othila graced today.

Inguz is a rune of fertility.  Of growth.  It represents Ing.  Growth may be internal more likely than external.  Take time to rest and allow the growth to take place.

Fehu is the rune of wealth.  One of the gifts we have which makes us wealthy is our honesty.  Honesty with ourselves and with others will gain us more in the long run than any monetary wealth we can obtain.  It is also healthier for our bodies, too.

Othila is the rune of inheritance, family and home.  Internal or external home may be the issue.  Are you happy where you live?  Are you happy with your internal home?  Where do you live when no one is there to observe you?  Where do you live in your head?

Ansuz is the task for tonight.  Listen to the messages your dreams tell you.  Listen to your gut.  Perhaps try calming your mind as you prepare to retire.  Let go of the stress of the day.  Welcome the messages coming your way.  Learn from them.  Give up the old so you can accept the new.

20 Jan 2011

Ansuz, Wunjo, and Nauthiz greeted today.

Ansuz brings with it messages.  Messages may be received from the physical world or the other world.  It provides an opportunity to develop your ability to communicate with both worlds.  Signals may come in a variety of forms.  Be vigilant and ever mindful.

Wunjo is the rune of Joy and with it, comes Serenity.  A sense of peace as events of life come to an easy harmonious peace.

Nauthiz is the rune of Need and Limitations.  Do not go beyond where you are funded to go.  However, you won't know how far you can go until you try.  Over extension should be avoided.

Odin is the advice for tonight.  The blank rune was not used traditionally.  Through out history, there have been changes in belief systems and as a result, great upheavals.  Perhaps, during traditional Troth beliefs, the blank rune was not needed because the source of faith was known and reliable.  Today, that cannot be said with certainty.    The Blank Rune may be evidence of today's struggle with Higher Power.  Whom do you believe in?  Is your faith solid or shaky?  Tonight might be a good time to take the time and visit with your Higher Power.  Start or continue an open dialog: both talk and listen.

19 Jan 2011

Wunjo, Jera, and Algiz ushered in a positive day, especially when compared to yesterday.

Wunjo is the rune of Joy.  A sparkly day was in order for this morning.  Glitter can do a girl wonders!  The contemporary interpretation indicates I am coming into myself on some level.  Traditions indicate a new relationship is formed.  Life is in harmony or can be.  Fellowship.

Jera is the rune of Patience and is associated with a cycle of time.  The cycle of time indicates one must be patient or have patience for a project or event to come full circle.  It may bring rewards.  Having the ability to see something through is one reward, even when the actual goal is something else, the ability to complete the process is reward.

Algiz indicates Mutual Trust.  It represents a sword, an elk, and sedges.  Contemporary guidance indicates all the warm and fuzzy words associated with building trust in one another and maintaining that.  Funny, it doesn't say anything about the damage that can be done by grasping with too much force.  Traditional advice reminds us to grasp the protection, the sword, gently so not to hurt ourselves.  What we see as protection can double back on us if we use it wrong or expect too much.  Being aware of our surroundings and vigilant in our interactions with others and ourselves is one way of using the protection this rune offers in a respectful and healthy manner.

Nauthiz is tonight's advice.  Constraint, Necessity, Pain; Shame; Limitations; and Distress, Need.  Look within for things that need to be cleared.  Dust the corners.  Repair yourself.  Learn from adversity.  Continue to grow and develop.  Mend.  Heal.

18 Jan 2011

Wunjo reversed or murskstave, Gebo, and Nauthiz were today's selections.

Wunjo is the rune of Joy.  In the mursk stave or reversed position, it may indicate something is slow coming to being.  It may indicate the person is removed or collapsed into relationships with others.  A withdrawal or renewal may be warranted.  Strife or alienation may be marked by this rune.  The contemporary interpretation may indicate a crisis or test has occurred.

Gebo is the rune of Gifts, and in the order of today's draw, Trust.  It is important to trust oneself in addition to those you are involved with (all relationships).  Traditionally, this rune was a reminder to be hospitable to guests.  If a person failed to provide hospitality to guests, wanted or unexpected, that person would be treated in kind by the Gods.  There is a story in the Edda about Odin seeking shelter from two families: rich and poor.  The rich family gave poorly.  The poor family gave as well as they could.  Odin blessed that family with a divine child.  At times, we need to give ourselves the gift of Trust.

Nauthiz in the contemporary interpretation indicates knowing and recognizing Limitations within relationships.  Traditionally, the rune addressed need.  Friction happening may be outside of one's control.  Hence, recognizing ones limitations.

Isa is the rune for this evening.  Standstill, Fear, and Reflection are contemporary interpretations.  Traditional meaning of Isa is Ice.  Perhaps it is a time to pull into oneself to be still, repair, address fears trying to take steps to neutralize them, and to reflect on the past and current life.  If not addressed, Isa may become destructive to the self.  And, as the self destroys itself, it destroys others as well.

13-17 Jan 2011

I enjoyed a long weekend, made a trip to see my boyfriend and so, those days will be in one posting.

Thursday: Perth, Nauthiz, and Teiwaz followed by Raido.
Friday was Inguz, Thurisa, and Jera followed by Nauthiz.
Saturday was Lagaz reversed and Hagalaz, Fehu, and Ehwaz followed by Nauthiz.
Sunday was Thurisa, Raido, and Uruz followed by Teiwaz reversed.
Today was Gebo, Isa, and Inguz.

I won't address each day, just give highlights.  I usually over plan visits; whether they are to my family, friends, or even when left to my own devices.  This weekend was no exception.  I did pretty good, I thought, about not trying to schedule every hour.  We took our time, did a few things and tried a project we had talked about.  That project is on the back burner as it isn't ready and we aren't ready to undertake it.  We will be soon.  The runes weren't exactly the fair weather variety and the weekend, from my perspective, wasn't exactly easy sailing.  We've gotten into a pattern (I think) of communicating well over the miles and then having little flair ups of some sort when we are together.  There may be a way to smooth that out, just need to think on it and give it a whirl.

Change is definitely in the works, as indicated by the runes and experiences.  I wonder if it is the years, centuries really, that have "trained" us to look on change and growth as something that may be painful or something to be resisted?  Take a look at European history for the answer to that, in particular, spiritual history.

Up, up, and away!!

12 Jan 2011

Odin, Berkana, and Teiwaz.

Odin marks the end.  Odin marks the beginning.  The blank rune was not part of the original alphabet.  Odin was not supposed to be worshiped when working with the runes.  Working with the runes, the person became "one with the gods."  In today's world, we are so removed from our spiritual Selves that Odin is needed.  Today, I received small indications of things to come and choices I should make.  One was a question of character.  Do you want to associate with people who do not display the character you feel is important?  Do you want to contribute to an idea that has stagnated?

Berkana recommends you ask through Prayer.  Prayer is not only a healing tool but also a tool to communicate with a Higher Power and your Self.  Now is the time to communicate with your Self.  Are you going in the right direction?  Are you making the right choices?  Are you in so deep that you need to ask the Higher Power for assistance?  These answers you will find through Prayer.

Teiwaz advises you to pursue your life, your relationships, your purpose with Passion.  Take care to pursue Passion healthily.  Avoid addiction.  If you become addicted to Passion or any other substance, seek help.  Passion aids us by providing conviction to a cause.  Without Passion, we complete tasks for the sake of completion.  With Passion, we focus and give it all that we can.

Live each day with Passion guided by Prayer, in the light of the Divine.

Ansuz reversed: Loki, Messenger Rune, Signals; Guilt; Communication.  Recognize the clues within and without.  Address any guilt you have for past or present mis-steps.  Forgive yourself.  Have compassion for your self.  Communicate with your Self.  Communicate with the people in your life.  Communicate with the Divine.

11 Jan 2011

Do you believe in numerology?  Today is 1/11/11 and many people looked to today to be remarkable.  I ask, how do you know if a day is remarkable?  Shouldn't we wait until history says it is remarkable or not?  Perhaps, it is up to each individual to make a day such as today a remarkable day.  Then, the argument would become, shouldn't we make every day a remarkable day?  Do the research and determine for yourself if today (or Nov. 11, 2011 at 11:11 am not pm because pm would be 23:11) is a day you should take note of or not.

Today's selection was Kano reversed, Sowelu, and Gebo.

When Kano appears in my readings for the day, it is usually reversed.  Kano (Opening, Fire, Torch) is one of the runes of Cycle of Initiation.  Kano provides light in various locations through the path of life.  It illuminates things you need to change to progress.  When it appears reversed, look to yourself to determine what needs to change.  Or, live for a while empty.  This may involve implementing things you have learned recently or healing in general.

Sowelu offers us the opportunity to have Compassion.  Compassion for ourselves and for others.  Compassionate beings do not judge.  I recognize each of us judges one another to determine how that person fits into our lives.  However, it is not our place to pass judgment on others actions.  We are our own worst critics, we do not need others to add to what we do to ourselves.  Compassion can change fear into love.

Gebo is the gift of Commitment.  Trust is an important foundation of Commitment.  Part of committing to something or someone is to maintain your individuality while joining to create a higher being.  When we commit to a person or a purpose, we create a higher being and we are enhanced because of it.

Ansuz reversed is the tonight's task: Signals, Messenger Rune, Loki; Guilt; and Communication.  If the well is clogged, clean it out.  Adversity is an excellent thing to meditate on.  Make amends.  Deal with conflict so Guilt starves.  Make peace with the past so you can move to the future.  Addressing guilt does not mean you have to go it alone: share your experiences with others, even the Higher Power.  Communicating makes a relationship stronger.  A strong relationship has a strong emotional bank account.  A strong bank account can withstand a large withdrawal.  Likewise, a strong relationship can withstand a large challenge.  Everything we do is an action that strengthens our relationships.

10 Jan 2011

Inguz, Mannaz, and Dagaz graced my day.

Inguz is the rune of Fertility, New Beginnings, Ing (the Hero God).  It talks of intuition.  The ability to "see" with your gut.  It marks the completing the beginning.  Sharing accomplishments.  Continue to clear away the past and the obstacles you have faced.  Be patient, you are entering a new period in your life.

Mannaz is the rune of Innocence.  It is always timely to remember simpler times to take advantage of the feeling of stress-free life.  Recalling the Age of Innocence is usually calming.  Take advantage of this while you start to enter your new life.

Dagaz is the rune of Purpose.  Viktor Frankl believed that each person has a purpose in life.  That purpose can be the difference between life and death.  Whether it is to serve your family, your community, or another entity, find that purpose and pursue it.  Viktor survived four camps to survive to write his book "Man's Search for Meaning."  His purpose was to survive for his family and to write his thesis.  Each of us "suffer" great trials in our lives.  Most of us will not suffer concentration camps; however, what we pay the price for to pursue our purpose in life is appropriate to us and we have the strength to follow through.  It is up to us to find, accept and take on the challenges of pursuing our Purpose.  Undertake to do it with determination and relish!

Tonight's advice is Berkana reversed.  Am I looking to meet my wants or the needs of others?  What is being selfish?  Perhaps the answer will come in Prayer.  The Right Action to take focuses on Home and Family.  Making good on my commitments, perhaps?

9 Jan 2011

Berkana, Teiwaz, and Perth were the runes I drew today.

Berkana is the rune of Growth, Rebirth, and the Birch Tree.  Berkana marks the time of coming into one's own.  It is the slow growth, growth in preparation, not the arrival.  The growth may be actually or spiritually.  You may be coming closer to your Self or to the Divine.  In a way, both are one in the same.

Teiwaz is the rune of Courage.  It takes a great amount of courage to realize what path you need to take and to stay on that path.  The most challenging paths are those that lead to your Self and to your Higher Power.  It is important to not strive to be God-like but to embody some of those characteristics.  It takes courage to see and know the difference.  It takes courage to know that you don't possess the strength or the knowledge to address the gods.

Perth is the rune of Intimacy.  Intimacy takes many forms: physical, sexual, mental, emotional, verbal, and spiritual.  One must be comfortable in one's own skin to achieve true intimacy with another.  Take the time to get to know yourself, your strengths and your weaknesses.  Recognize those are one in the same: they are interchangeable.  Then, you can enter into a relationship knowing it is stronger than it would be otherwise.  Likewise, review your relationship with your Self.  Know you will never be in agreement 100% of the time.  That is the gift of a relationship with anyone or anything.  That is part of what makes it strong.

Mannaz reversed is tonight's advice: The Self; Innocence; and Loving Kindness.  I was going to review my postings to determine if my theory was correct, based upon today's runes.  However, I am going to wait, to let the runes and their interpretations develop more.  I am still at the beginning, and am feeling a little blocked.  I will continue to develop my relationships with my Self and the Divine.  I will appreciate the Innocence and consider that I may not want to review my entries to determine if I am correct.  Above all, I will practice Loving Kindness to myself and to others.

8 Jan 2011

Raido, Ehwaz, and Gebo were the runes I drew this morning.

Raido is a journey through communication to a union or reunion.  The journey you undertake to discover your Self and how it interacts in your life and relationships with others Some times, you need to wait.  Waiting is not always non-action.  While you wait, look within for the characters that slow your progress when you find them, take action to neutralize them.  Ask your Higher Power for help.  Raido is one of the runes within the Cycle of Initiation and within it is the rune of Joy.  The end is in sight.

Ehwaz is the rune of Forgiveness.  Part of living and moving forward to live today for the day is to forgive.  Forgiving creates peace with the past.  Recognizing when or what you did wrong and making amends by asking for forgiveness or taking actions to rectify the past.  Even though someone may not recognize your actions, immediately or never, you recognize them.  If you are on the receiving end, you should be aware and recognize those actions and acknowledge them.  I failed to do that today.  For that, I apologize.

Gebo is the rune of Commitment.  To commit to something or someone is not something to enter in lightly.  Committing to a car, for example, involves maintaining that system and meeting legal requirements (license and insurances and registration).  Committing to a person requires the same thing.  A personal commitment is more complicated: you commit to yourself, that person, and any project you agree to undertake.  I spent part of the day doing research for a joint project.  I learned a lot of things!  Remember any relationship you enter into is comprised of at least three parts: your life, the other person's life, and your lives together.  Let the wind dance between you.  A joint project is an excellent example of being committed to a common goal and each other.

Tonight's offering is Kano reversed: Opening, Fire, Torch; Acceptance; and Inner Peace.  Kano in the reversed position appears more often that in the upright position; at least for me.  It is often appropriate as I need to develop inner stability and remove the chains created by my past.  I can't remove the scars, but I can remove the chains attaching me to the creator through them.  Accepting the past so I can look to the future is important.  It is vital to help gain Inner Peace.

7 Jan 2011

Today's advice came in the forms of Raido, Eihwaz, and Jera.

Raido is the rune of Journey, Communication, Union/Reunion.  The time has come to quietly work on removing resistances, to ask through meditation what is right action, and to make progress towards righting two sides.  The traditions with current culture.  Two people.  Your self and Self.  Should we hold onto traditions for traditions sake or should they evolve to encompass today's concerns?  Even when we evolve, we bring things from previous lives so we are never entirely new.  We not only learn from our own pasts but those of our relatives and previous lives.  I carry something from my ancestors.  I carry something from my previous lives.  I carry something from my history.  What I do with what I bring forward is up to me.  There is no true fate as we tend to define it, looking to the future.  Fate is a combination of the past with the present.  Even though fate may point us in a certain direction, the outcomes are not certain, guaranteed.  We always have a choice and that choice will bring with it every choice made prior to it.

Eihwaz advocates taking control of your life.  It may require a separate path.  This separation may be between people or ideas.  This does not mean a finality, it may mean taking the time to care for ourselves.  Even when we look after ourselves, it is important to look after those around us.  This can be done by having and showing compassion for our surroundings.  Animate or Inanimate, we can show compassion for all things.  Before we can be truly compassionate towards others, we need to be compassionate towards ourselves.  We need to look within and recognize the things we may or may not be comfortable with and recognize them as being part of the person we were before and that we can learn from them as we go forward.  Everything has value, including what we perceive as mistakes.

Jera reminds us to stick to things and carry out our actions.  To see things to the end.  Everything is a journey.  Determining the end is perhaps the most difficult thing to do: how much of investment is not enough, just right, or too much?  How many years do we work at a job, even though the average currently is 2 years, before we can earn a retirement package; when things are just too much; or when we have invested so much that we cannot leave without suffering a significant loss?  This applies for relationships, studies, hobbies, and life.  All of these we take an active roll in that decision process.  Take control of your decisions and see things to the end.  You will know when the end is, without a doubt.  Me, I am no where near the end...  How did Jerry Reed say that: "We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there"?

Sometimes you draw a rune that is just plain fitting.  Tonight's advice is Mannaz.  The rune of Self, Innocence, and Loving Kindness.  I am on the right track.  I am correctly pursuing new studies and am on the right track of current endeavors and studies.  I have no other analysis than I am on the path I need to be.  Even though it is relatively early on that path, it is timely and it is showering Loving Kindness on me.

6 Jan 2011

The runes' advice for today was Sowelu, Thurisa, and Inguz.

Sowelu is Wholeness, Life Force, and the Sun's Energy.  The second day of living today, I was challenged to shed the past.  It wasn't as easy as it was, yesterday.  I was able to quiet the inner critic after the thoughts came in; however, they did get into my head.  Thoughts of the future also entered in.  This isn't entirely bad; however, focusing on a result as we often do when thoughts of the future enter into our minds is counter productive.  Instead, focus on your actions today and when it comes to the future, visualize the forest as opposed to the trees.
Allow the sun's rays and strength stream into you and back into the world.  Feel the warmth.

The rune of Wisdom, Thurisa is recognizing the answers or signs in response to our questions.  Wisdom is the payoff for working to earn it.  It is not given.  You have to work for it.

Inguz is the rune of Renewal.  Take actions to renew your relationships or consider if they need to be renewed.  This includes your relationship with your Self.  Of course, you can't really leave that relationship.  You can; however, make changes to renew your Self.  The results will be seen in your self.

Tonight's guidance is Othila reversed.  Othila represents Loki, Signals, Messages; Grief; and Home & Family.  Frustrated with life?  Feel like you are spinning your wheels?  Perhaps this is the time for you to be calm and do the work to learn the lesson as it is timely for your progress.  Adversity is a great teacher and is needed in every journey.  Perhaps Grief is getting in your way.  Review it and its causes and let them go.  Every relationship has its bumps.  It has its own Grief.  Address both and work to remove the obstacles.  It will make that relationship stronger.  A strong relationship with your Self can help to create a strong home and an atmosphere for your family.

5 Jan 2011

The runes I drew this morning were Algiz, Othila, and Raido.

Algiz is the rune of Protection, often signified by the sound of sedges and rushes or an elk's antlers in the shrubs.  A conversation last night about spiritual things encouraged me to live today for the day and not looking to the past.  Algiz is an excellent rune to help with doing that; it advises to control emotions, especially during times of change.  To leave yesterday behind is a step towards change, towards Self change.  One needs to protect one's self when making that change.  Leaving past hurts and successes behind is a huge step for the Self to take.  The Self is fragile and it needs protection, especially when removing the protections of the past.  The results are worth it, though!

Othila is the rune of Grief.  Care for your heart, even as you shed yesterdays, protect your heart from past hurts and future hurts.  To live for today and remove the influences from yesterday, recognize the grief you resulting from actions in the past.  Ask for forgiveness, if needed.   Or, are you being sent another's grief so you can help that person?  Today, I helped loved one develop a plan for facing some grief from his past.  Part of the relief of letting go of grief or planning how to do it, is part of that grief disappears.  You feel better having a plan.  And even better when you take steps towards carrying out that plan!

Raido indicates Harmony has entered a relationship.  Living today without revisiting yesterday brought peace and harmony to my day.  In fact, it opened numerous ideas that would not have surfaced under normal circumstances.  Deciding to expand my rune studies, for example.  I grabbed two books out of my library as I left for work this morning.  One of them inspired me to help a loved one deal with grief from the past.  As I read the interpretation this morning, it also occurred to me that even though I ask about the relationship with myself, often times, the rune applies to other relationships as well.  In particular the relationships with people closest to me.

Today was a great example of readings that started out to not have the potential of having a huge impact on the day.  As it comes to a close, I must admit that the choice I made to live in today and outside of yesterday caused these runes to have a completely different interpretation as I expected them to when I drew them this morning.  Evidence of making a small change that has a big impact!

Algiz is the advice for tonight.  Protection/sedges or rushes/Elk; Boundaries; and Mutual Trust.  As I live in the present, I must learn a new way of protecting myself.  The development of boundaries will assist in this.  I am not referring to physical boundaries, but more on a cellular level.  Emotional, mental, etc.  These boundaries will not be designed to keep everyone out or at a certain distance.  They will be designed to limit access to a certain extent.  Much like checking a book out of special collections as compared to the general collection.  Access to the absolute innerness of mySelf will require building Mutual Trust with those who want access.  That is part of building boundaries, determining who you want to build that mutual trust with and creating it so the trust can be paid back with access to our intimate cores.  It has to be two-sided, therefore, Mutual.

4 Jan 2011

Today's runes were Fehu, Hagalz, and Ehwaz.

Fehu is the rune of Possessions, Nourishment, and Cattle.  Cattle were a sign of wealth because they required a great deal of investment to raise a calf to a mature animal, ready to be slaughtered for its meat.  Dairy cattle were able to provide milk in addition to meat.  Today, it speaks to asking what is important to your life, what you see is evidence of success: is it wealth and things or the success and failures of relationships with yourself and others?  Part of nourishment is maintaining those "possessions" and caring for them.  Ever tangible item and every relationship needs to be cared for, to be fed.  Remember to feed your relationship with your Self, as well.  There is no point to having wealth if you aren't in a position to care for them and enjoy them.

Hagalz is the rune of Anger.  Normally perceived as a negative emotion and therefore, negative actions.  Instead, use it as a strength.  Take your anger and challenge it.  Use it to neutralize the anger and its source by learning from the cause of it and turn it into a success.  Anger is a mask, get to the source of anger; be it hurt, fear, abandonment, or other negative emotions.  Explore it, learn from it, and use it.  It isn't a challenge, if you aren't ready to face your anger, don't face it.  Meditation on your anger, instead.  Ultimately, it is a new way of looking at life.

Ehwaz is the rune of Letting Go.  It is fitting that Ehwaz follows Hagalz.  To recognize your Anger and then putting in the time to Let Go is not an easy thing to do.  Some people hide behind their Anger because it has stayed with them for so long.  Looking at your baggage and neutralizing it allows you to move forward to bring new experiences, even new baggage, into your life.  The baggage you bring in may not be negative, it could be so profoundly positive to make you stronger and better.  As a lump of clay is molded into a sculpture or practical vessels, the true shape is exposed through manipulating the clay.  Taking away, adding, rearranging, destroying, and creating.  Imagine success, but don't focus on the specific outcome while ignoring the surroundings.  Be open to changing directions.  Let go of the past so you can begin again.

Tonight's runic advice is Mannaz reversed.  The Self; Innocence; and Loving Kindness.  Look inside for the enemy of your progress.  The challenges you are experiencing on the outside reflect what is going on inside. Live life creatively.  Know your self and your Self.  Look back to an age of Innocence.  That is where things begin.  Innocence brings wholeness and can restore wholeness even after innocence has been ripped away.  Sweet beginnings can return and restored by little acts.  Honor the routes you can come and how you got there.  As you honor your travels, practice Loving Kindness to yourself and to others.  Forgiveness, acceptance, and loving are important to share with ourselves and others.  These traits and actions allow us to minimize and quiet the critic within.  The ability to silence the critic is the mark of a very skilled and Self-aware person.

3 Jan 2011

Today's runes were Isa and Eihwaz.

Isa is the rune of Standstill, Withdrawal, and Ice.  Gestation is this rune's position in the Cycle of Initiation.  Quietly waiting for the birth.  Being in the world but not of the world.  Asking questions but being careful to not guide the questions to what I want.  Looking at personal desires and be willing to let them go.  Gathering strength for times to come when the strength will be needed to see the cycle to its completion and the next new beginning.  Trust in yourSelf and watch for signs of new.

Eihwaz is the rune of Denial.  Living life in the moment, not letting it be lived without active guidance.  Recognize short comings.  Admit them to another, be it human or Higher Power.  Have compassion for others, be of service to the people in your life.  This may be accomplished by being a sounding board to someone looking for guidance from within and without.  Provide comfort to a wounded heart.  Open yourself to this process and gain comfort as well by offering it to others.  Respect their challenges.

In relationships, Eihwaz is the rune of Respect.  To respect someone, is to see someone again.  The cycle of gestation, birth, life, death, and decay is an ongoing process.  It has no end or beginning.  Issues return as we need to revisit them and learn new things or relearn old.  Much like re-incarnation, issues have a way of resurfacing until we have learned what we need to learn.  Issues are opinions of others or a byproduct of them that we learn from.  We always look at something through our eyes and our eyes change as they learn new things through experiences.  Care for others by appreciating what is important to them.  Especially for those we love.  Thinking loved ones believe the same we do, is a sign of disrespect.  We are never the same, that is what makes separate beings into a stronger whole.  Respect is part of the foundation of the relationship.

Jera brings Harvest, Fertile Season, One Year; Patience; and Perseverance as the tasks for tonight.  Remembering the task I am working on will come to its completion.  In time.  I must be patient because if I push too hard currently, the end will not be what I wish for.  To persevere and complete the tasks for their sake knowing I will be making a stronger product, I will succeed.

2 Jan 2011

Today's advice came in the form of Dagaz, Ansuz, and Mannaz.

Dagaz is one of the runes which have no reversed presentation.  It represents the Day, Transformation, and Breakthrough.  Dagaz is also the final rune of the cycle of Initiation.  It marks a change.  In this case, a vow to commit to a project with the intention of following it through.  I am not sure if we will succeed, however, we can choose to grow stronger and closer as we undertake this project.  Trust has been built and will continue to be built as we undertake this project.  I am looking forward to taking it on!

Ansuz is the rune of Guilt.  At this point, I feel I have addressed the guilt in my life, for the most part.  Instead, I am considering how restoration can come about in times of trouble.  Returning music and art to spiritual lives...  Evolving faith in self, country, and spirits...  It is a personal voyage and one that requires courage and perseverance.

Mannaz is Loving Kindness.  To practice and give this to oneself is important.  Once that is done, it is easier to offer the gift to others.  To be open and give of ourselves to another is perhaps the most challenging and freeing act a person can do.  It is challenging because it reveals something of ourselves to someone who can refuse it.  To be refused like that is hear-breaking.  However, the flip side of presenting that part of ourselves and being accepted with open arms is liberating and the best evidence of being accepted and loved.  To offer someone Loving Kindness is not only an act of loving another person enough to offer understanding, but it is also an act of love towards ones self.  Practice it daily, as you don't know who will need it the most.

The advice for tomorrow is Mannaz reversed.  When receiving Mannaz reversed, it is an opportunity to look within for the obstacle to ones development.  Is it failing to show kindness to the Self?  Recognizing the enemy to progress on the inside will be the reflection of the exterior.  Innocence is the starting point.  It is the evidence of coming home.  When home, one should practice Loving Kindness.  That, above all places, is the place needing it the most.  Love your Self as you would others.

1 Jan 2011

Welcome to the New Year!

New beginnings...  Today's selection was Kano, Odin, and Berkana.

Kano is the rune of Opening, Fire, Torch.  It offers clarification and allows giving and receiving of gifts.  In relationships, it fosters opening up to each other.  Allowing someone to be involved in our lives can be a challenge.  The "threat" is the person discovers our character: strengths and weaknesses.  The "bonus" is the person plays a roll, supports your actions, and provides a potential partnership.  Together, the rough edges can be smoothed out; difficult tasks become easier; and mountains can be climbed.  Even if there isn't a relationship involved, Kano offers an opportunity to develop a relationship with your Self.  If your self and Self are strong, you can have a strong relationship with anyone.

Odin represents The Divine.  Divine may be represented by God, by Allah, or any other form a Higher Power takes.  Listen to the messages from the Divine.  Have an open conversation with your Higher Power.  Breathing is a form of Prayer which is the easiest form of communication with the Divine.  Use the Higher Power as your strength in times of need.  Personally, I have been developing my relationship with the Higher Power.  I am learning to develop my abilities and being receptive to the messages.  Its an improvement from the previous life.

Berkana is the rune of Right Action.  Today's right action was in the form of Renewal brought by Inguz.  Sometimes, renewal comes in the form of gaining understanding about the past and how it relates to the future and what your role can be.  We are what we make of things.  Part of building trust is gaining understanding of events leading up to current philosophies.  Building trust is a way to renew vows to a relationship.

Tonight's advice is Eihwaz: Defense, Avertive Powers, Yew Tree; Denial; and Respect.  A delay in action may be appropriate.  Avert defeat.  Do what is right is what the rune councils.  Once the decision is made, the doing becomes easy.  Live actively, and consciously.  Have compassion for those around you.  Listen to the story and show Respect.  Respect is an on going process.

31 Dec 2010

Hagalz, Isa, and Inguz were the runes I drew this morning.

Hagalz, the rune of Hail, Disruption, and Elemental Power; forecasts change, disruption, and everything else associated with disruption.  Have you ever thought that the little changes you made weren't amounting to much very quickly?  And things that you secretly want for yourself seem to happen for other people instead of you?  And then, something happens that puts your world on its ear and you take notice that even though you aren't where you wanted at the time you wanted; what you are doing may be making more progress than you thought because something happens to solidify your actions?  THAT would be the power of Hagalz.

Isa indicates Fear of progress in healing.  Fear of the past, the future?  Fear that you aren't doing the right things?  Address your fears and neutralize them by realizing they are impacted by things in the past.  Things that hurt, humiliated, or pained you in a way.  Slowly eliminate them one at a time and come out a stronger person!

Inguz is the rune of Renewal.  Renewing a relationship allows for trust to be strengthened.  When trust, the foundation of any and all relationships, is improved and strengthened, the relationship becomes stronger and better able to weather the challenges presented along the way.  It is like a bank account.  The more money placed into the account, the more money is available for withdrawal when it is needed.  Likewise, when trust is built and strengthened, the relationship is better able withstand trials and tribulations.  When it comes to the relationship with ones Self, Renewal allows the self to gain perspective, faith in oneself, Self-esteem, and better able to address attacks on the Self.  Better able to look upon these challenges as something to learn from.

Tonight's draw is Uruz reversed: Strength, Man/Womanhood, the Wild Ox; Gratitude; and Support.
Take stock of my relationships, in particular, with my Self.  Have I been living in a haze?  Do I need to "wake up" and pay attention?  Do not draw back just because I don't know where I am going.  Dive right in and be thankful for the opportunities.  Be grateful for the opportunities to live and explore different paths of life.  Express Gratitude for the people in my life.  And Support those in my life.  Paying attention by listening and watching to provide support as needed.  Never assume you know what support is needed, when in doubt, ask.  We "tame" each other much like the Wild Ox was tamed for service.  We tame each other by learning to live with each other by building trust and supporting each other.  Communicating with each other is the key to make this all possible.  Be thankful for those people in your life allowing you to "tame" them by developing a relationship and supporting them.
